Floor Care Basics

Carpet Floor Care Basics

  1. Preventative maintenance is key! Use walk off mats to keep soil, debris, and salt from entering the home.
  2. Regular vacuuming is the number one way to keep your carpet looking new. Vacuum the entire house once a week, high traffic areas daily.
  3. Remove stains or spills immediately per guidelines in carpet warrant and care booklets.
  4. Have a professional deep clean your carpets every 12 months, if soiled.

Luxury Vinyl Planks or Tiles Care Basics

  1. Protect entryways with walk off mats
  2. Use non-staining floor protectors under heavy furniture, chairs, and tables
  3. Always use plywood or other boards to move heavy objects across the floor
  4. Sweep, dust mop or vacuum to remove all loose dirt and grit.
  5. Lightly damp mop daily or as needed.
  6. Use a properly diluted PH cleaner for a deeper clean.

Hardwood Floor Care Basics

  1. For preventative maintenance, use rugs by doorways and floor protectors under furniture legs
  2. Mop or sweep dust, sand and dirt from your floors regularly
  3. Protect floors from moisture in flowerpots with drainage holes; don’t allow them to rest directly on floors
  4. Always clean your floors with a product made specifically for Hardwoods such as Bona or Bruce cleaner.
  5. Keep the relative humidity between 35-55% year-round and the temperature between 65-80 degrees
  6. Be aware that pet nails scratch hardwood floors
  7. DO NOT USE- WET mops with soap and water, ammonia, furniture dust cleaners, Orange glow, Murphys oil, or Swiffer wet jet

Laminate Floor Care Basics

  1. Sweep, dust mop or wipe with a damp cloth. Trigger spray bottles and a mop are great.
  2. Use ONCE N DONE No Rinse floor cleaner
  3. Use fantastic on difficult spots
  4. Can use nail polish remover (w acetone) to remove shoe polish, tar or glue
  5. Use floor protectors or pads on furniture and chairs
  6. DO NOT USE mop and shine products, they leave a dull film
  7. DO NOT wax or polish
  8. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or pads
